Method
Prepare the potatoes
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish with butter.
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced potatoes with salt, pepper, and thyme.
Make the sauce
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter and sauté the minced garlic until fragrant.
- Add the heavy cream and bring to a simmer. Stir in the cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
Assemble and bake
- Layer half of the potatoes in the greased baking dish, then pour half of the cheese sauce over them.
- Repeat with the remaining potatoes and sauce. Top with additional cheese if desired.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden and bubbly.

- Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your scalloped potatoes!
