Ingredients
  

Casserole Base
  • 8 slices bread preferably brioche or challah
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk whole or 2%
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup sugar granulated
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon ground
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg ground
  • 1 pinch salt
Topping
  • 1 cup maple syrup for serving
  • 1 cup powdered sugar for dusting

Method
 

Prepare the Casserole
  1. Grease the baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  2. Cut the bread into cubes and place them in the baking dish.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring all pieces are soaked.
  5. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
Bake the Casserole
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Remove the casserole from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for 15 minutes.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
  4. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
  5. Serve warm with maple syrup and a dusting of powdered sugar.
