Old Fashioned Scalloped Potatoes Recipe

Ingredients
  

Potatoes
  • 4 medium Russet Potatoes peeled and thinly sliced
Onion
  • 1 medium Onion thinly sliced
Sauce
  • 4 tablespoons Butter for the sauce
  • 4 tablespoons All-Purpose Flour for thickening
  • 2 cups Milk whole or 2%
  • 1 teaspoon Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper to taste
  • 1 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese for topping

Method
 

Prepare the Potatoes
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the baking dish. Sprinkle half of the sliced onions on top.
Make the Sauce
  1. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until bubbly.
  2. Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens. Season with salt and pepper.
Combine and Bake
  1. Pour half of the sauce over the potato and onion layers. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes and onions, then pour the remaining sauce on top.
  2. Cover with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Remove the foil, sprinkle with cheddar cheese, and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
Serve
  1. Let the scalloped potatoes cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!

Notes
