Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon molasses for sweetness
  • 1 tablespoon honey optional for extra sweetness

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, molasses, and honey until well combined.
Mixing and Baking
  1. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  2. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and shape it into a round loaf.
  3. Place the loaf on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cut a deep cross on top of the loaf with a knife.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  5. Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
