Hello and welcome to Chef Home Tips! I’m Rachel Donovan, and I created this space to bridge the gap between restaurant-quality cooking and everyday home kitchens.
Our Story
Rachel grew up in a loud, food-obsessed Irish-Australian family in Melbourne, where Sunday roasts were sacred and her nan’s lamb stew recipe was passed down with more ceremony than a family heirloom. But Rachel’s culinary path took a surprising turn when she worked as a front-of-house manager at a fine dining restaurant in her twenties. She watched professional chefs night after night and became obsessed with understanding the “why” behind every technique. She started pestering the sous-chef with questions after service — and he eventually invited her into the kitchen to learn. Those late-night informal lessons transformed how Rachel cooked at home forever. She launched Chef Home Tips to share what she learned: that restaurant magic is really just a handful of simple techniques applied consistently.
